Using the Alesis Photon for travelling sessions, I felt a bit frustrated when playing in concert or in the studio, due to its 2 octaves keyboard. I had the opportunity to find in Bangkok a Yamaha retailer, this company distributing the CME Uf controlers and I chose the smallest UF 5. First surprise, this little baby is aluminium and iron made and solid-state. No plastic here. It has an excellent key response and feeling when playing. CME is a chinese start-up company that built keyboards for years for some prestigious synthesizer companies (Oberheim, Yamaha) befor deciding to produce this serie under their own labelled trade-mark. Here are the features of the UF controller: - 49 Key Semi-Weighted Synth-Action
Keyboard) CME offers an internal audiocard option which really sucks: latency problems, bad drivers . Forget this one ! But yoy may really go for the keyboard itself which is great ! |

NEWS 2009 By the way, after some years of using CME UF5 i discovered a lot of bugs in this keyboard controller : the hardware is fine but the firmware is really a crap. The big problem is with MIDI Sync: UF5 always send its internal MIDI clock and the only way to stop this is to reset the macine or to switch it off...For people looking after a simple and ready to use controller I strongly recommand not to buy CME UF5. And by the way,NO UPDATED DRIVERS FOR 4 YEARS. Forget it if you use Vista...or OSX. Generally a lot of drivers problems with CME. |
